I just got back from the big island and have some Exciting news for Hawaii today, March 5, 2010; the U.S. Department of Energy released an announcement that $117 million in stimulus money will be allocated to finance the construction of a 12-tower wind farm in Kahuku. There is some really good real estate over there. One of two projects in the area to bring clean energy to the islands, the wind farm is being built on 506 acres in the hills above Kahuku. First Wind is expected to install 12 wind turbine generators that will be able to supply enough electricity for 7,700 homes a year. Although it will be similar to other wind farms, First Wind’s project is just one of two wind farm plants proposed for this rural area of Oahu. 22, 420-foot towers will be erected to when the two projects are completed. Kent Fonoimoana, Kahuku Community Association board member was quoted as saying, “We understand we can make a contribution…”

Fonoimoana has said that most of his neighbors are comfortable with First Wind’s project because it’s set about three quarters of a mile away from homes. Oahu Wind Partners intends to build four towers above homes that have caused concern.
First Wind has stated that its plant will create jobs and help move the state towards renewable energy.
Kaluhiwa said, “We like to think that as we look forward the community will be able to support the efforts we’re trying to achieve with the wind farm.”
First Wind hopes to have the wind farm up and running by the end of the year. Hawaii Govenor Lingle intends to push Hawaii to the forefront of clean energy.

As an aside, sadly enouph.
I have to give some credit where credit is due, however, as it is hoped by some local residents there that this horrid calamity will help to initiate some action such as the state of New Jersey’s ban on the use of mobile phones while in an auto. State Police Superintendent Frank E. Pawlowski stated that they fully support taking action to prevent mobile phone use in the auto. This has also been a big issue in Houston, with personal injury and accident.
