Hawaii in general, and the main island Oahu in particular (wow there is some nice real estate over there), seems to be at the center of climate change and creating an entire revolution to deal with it. For example, in 2008 the state of Hawaii set an objective of drawing 70 percent of its power from non-polluting, renewable energy within the next two decades. The islands are the most foreign energy dependant state in our nation, importing oil to generate 90% of its energy. In one plan, oahu would be supplied by undersea cables from wind farms on the smaller islands like lanai, since Oahu Real estate is quite finite compared to the other islands like Molokai, etc.
All in all, it is a good thing the 50th state is stepping up to the plate, because scientists are telling us that the temperatures in the upper elevations of Hawaii are rising faster than anywhere else on earth, leading to reduced rainfall and less freshwater.
It is now being reported that Hawaii should be able to cut its polluting emissions by 50% in the next ten years, which had been growing partially because of the easy availability of Oahu used cars or at least the affordability of these models. In related news, Five meetings will cover global warming, culminating in Oahu, Hawaii. As if it isn’t bad enough to see the gulf being drowned in oil, or Lake Tahoe being spoiled by Asian clams, now we hear global warming is adversely affecting Hawaii’s delicate ecosystem.
For it’s part, Hawaii is a most vulnerable victim of the ongoing global warming, scientists are saying. Temperatures are rising faster at the state’s upper elevations than anywhere else in the world. Audrey McAvoy, reporter for the Associated Press, wrote a piece for the Star Advertiser, titled; Hawaii is already seeing effects of global warming, experts say. The story was posted July 11, 2010.
McAvoy writes that the assistant secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere has said that Oahu was chosen as a location for the meeting because experts realize the Pacific island communities are highly susceptible to the changes wrought by global warming, which probably explains why they crack down on used car emmisions and the like.
A federal task force will conduct five conferences around the nation to hear firsthand how climate change is affecting communities. Portland, Ore. and Miami have already had their meetings; Chicago has one on Thursday, and one will be held in Denver on July 19.

The evolution of Armored Cars Technology

Since i have have moved to Baltimore, Maryland I have been fascinated with auto and all things car related, for some strange reason that I do not yet fully understand.. Armored car technology goes back a long way. It was first used in actual military operations by the Italian Army when they defeated Ottoman forces and annexed Libya during the Italo-Turkish war on 1911 to 1912. It was used to a modest degree os success during the great War of 1914 by both sides and in the inter-war period when Great Britain used the weapon to help shut down rebellions in areas of it’s far flung empire such as Iraq. During Hitlers (foolish) invasion of Russia, codenamed Operation Barbarossa, armored warfare went to new extremes which culminated in the battle of Kursk, the largest armored battle the world has ever known. In that battle, thousands of armored vehicles were thrown into the line and The Russians learned a great deal about armored and mobile war during their fight with the Germans and by the time they invaded Japanese held Manchura
in the summer of 1945, it took them less than a week to reach Korea from Siberia, largely because of the prowess of their huge tanks and auto armor, as well as the modern mobile warfare doctrine of Hanz Guderian and the Blitzkrieg or “Lightning War” tactics which they learned the hard way from their long death struggle with Nazi Germany. At that time they had perhpas the best tank in the war, the T-34, and a newer super heavy tank called the ‘Stalino’. To switch gears for a moment if you need a solid Baltimore car accident attorney firm in Maryland who can also help with both personal injury and workers comp cases in addition to the said auto and car accident attorney cases then Marc Atas is your man, give him a call. then the Tire Stop is good. They also do other types of cases as well.
The allies meanwhile used armored cars in huge numbers in their drive across Europe, in their desert war against Rommel’s ‘Afrika Korps’ and the Italian campaign which began in 1943.
Armored cars underwent continuous innovations in the korean War of 1950-53, the Vietnam War all the way up to the second gulf war. Nowadays there are a plethera of modern armored cars such as the ‘Grizzly’
which can withstand roadside bombs and even anti-tank mines as well.

BAIID Blood Alcohol Interlock Device helping to Combat DUI’s

Illinois citizen will not be hopping in their automobiles and leave party’s if they have too many alcoholic beverages. This is thank to a new law that may be saving lives. A new Illinois law requires first time drunk drivers to install a BAIID Blood Alcohol Interlock Device. This device requires the driver to blow into the alcohol monitors to prove alcohol limits are met. Currently seven thousand Illinois citizen have had the BAIID installed in their automobiles to date. This number is up from 3000 under the previous Illinois statute. Incidentally if you live in the Chicago area and need a great Chicago dui lawyer I suggest Mathew Miller. Matthew is among the top Chicago dui lawyer in the city. The BAIID are required for six to twelve months for typical DUI offenses. The driver that those to install the devices pay the devices installation and monthly rental fee which costs hundreds of dollars. Arizona, Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska, Alaska and Colorado all have similar laws. MADD wants every state to pass such a law they argue the law could reduce the number of DUI deaths each year, from current numbers of around 15,000. Illinois officials state they don’t have figures on how many people decide not to install the interlocks.

Web Designers look to Software Titans

Anthony Doesburg, an excellent writer and expert journalist who writes for the elite publication: The New Zealand Herald newspaper, recently wrote a story where he pointed out how many web designers take their cue from the
‘Big Three’ software firms. These ‘Big Three’ are Seattle Based Microsoft, Google, based in Mountain View, California
and Adobe, which you could possibly describe as their little brother, since it is not a household name like they are. As you probably already know, Adobe, the maker of Flash, powers web mainstays like YouTube, and of course Acrobat of pdf files
fame. When I set up that Church Fundraiser I used Adobe a lot and it really helped alot. If you yourself ever decide to set up a church fundraiser then I can recommend it. Just like the juggernaut Google, Adobe is also a Golden State based outfit that basically has the market cornered regarding providing a wide sweeping digital design toolkit. Their Creative Suite, release 4 of which came out toward the end of 2008 is known simply as CS4, and has everything you really need to produce a complex, feature-rich website with a lot of bells and whistles or even a video.
As he correctly pointed out in his column, Adobe commands market dominance in this particular niche segment from pure weight of numbers. All in all, he says, it reportedly has more than 3/4 of online videos are viewed using their popular free Flash Player.
“In website development”, he goes on to say,”however, Adobe’s dominance is less pronounced overall “He makes a very good point here, in my opinion. By the way you can get more information about Adobe Applications and news over at the Blog.
In the universe of of print design, there is simply no question of Adobe’s supremacy, according to Sean McGarry, a director of Wellington creative agency Base 2. Around sixty percent or so of their twelve-year-old firm’s work is print, although that is gradually but continually moving towards the internet, just like seemingly everything else, from retail stores to the yellow Pages to a church fundraiser.

Y2K Still and Insurance Issue

I just returned from Washington and then San Diego to see the accident attorney there and I do not want to further neglect my writing so her goes: If you thought 2000 meant the end of Y2K as an issue, not quite, according to this article by an attorney…I recall Washington being particularly worried about this. The Y2K problem originates in the software or coding used to operate computer systems. In addition, the consequences flowing from the failure to correct the problem were well known long before remediation costs were incurred. If you need a Washington accident attorney then I do suggest this one who is one of the finest such accident attorney in all of Washington state. The ques¬tion therefore arises as to whether potential losses related to Y2K failures are fortuitous and whether the policyholders’ remediation costs are incurred to prevent damage to covered property arising out of a covered loss. By the way if you reside in the San Diego area generally and do require a first rate injury attorney there then I suggest this one in particular as he is simply one of the best San Diego criminal attorney
out there at this time who can also be your domestic violence lawyer if you need him to be.. Alright now lets go back to the main article at hand: In its most basic form, insurance is a con¬tract whereby the insurer undertakes to indemnify another against loss from certain specified con¬tingencies or perils. The contract provides security against possible anticipated loss. Risk is the essen¬tial element.9 Accordingly, it is well recognised that a loss in progress or known loss is not insurable. The rule will apply whenever the insured is, or should have been, aware of a loss at the time the policy was purchased. Applying this rule to Y2K remediation costs calls into question whether insurance coverage can exist at all, whether by accident or not. It is not a criminal issue overall

Man Accused Of Compromising SF City Network

According to various mainstream news articles, Bay area citizen Terry Childs stands accused of locking out authorized network administrators from the system and has refused to give up passwords for the city computer network he assisted in building.

All in all, he has pleaded not guilty to 4 criminal felony counts of computer network tampering plus 1 additional count of causing excessive loss which is reported to be in access of $200,000.

Currently Childs bail is set at $5 million dollars and he is also scheduled for another bail hearing next week. When Child’s current bail was set his attorney argued quite strenously that the bail for violent offenders cuasing personal injury is generally set at $1 million dollars. This probably is due to the fact that his crimes cuts to the bone of the whole city matrix. Incidentially if you require a superlative San Francisco Personal Injury Attorney you may want to consider the law offices of Scott Righthand. He is certainly one of the top personal injury attorney in the bay area generally. he also serves Oakland, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, Mountain View and Sunnyvale.

According to the Department of Technology there are some sections of this network which remain locked. Just some of the records which are located on this network include records and law enforcement documents and about 60 percent of San Francisco’s traffic data.   In additiona to all of this, Ron Vinson of the Dept. of Technology has said that they have control of the FiberWan network and are working with their forensics team to reclaim total access. He said that while Childs has not been dismissed he does have the authority to fill his position while he is on administrative leave awaiting trial. He also stated that his department will speed up the plan it had to increase the overall security on the FiberWan network. Wow there have really been a lot of strange network related crimes and odd activity as of late, not just in Frisco but really nationwide.

Mobile computing News:Hot On The Heels of The iPhone 3

I do not know exactly what the reason is, but lately there has been an awful lot of news pertaining to to technology, personal computing, gadgets in general and handheld devices such as the iPhone in particular. Mobile computing has really come a long way and it has taken a real quantam leap in a short period of time, largely driven by strong competition between technology firms and also innovation and the continuation of the size reduction of the veritable microchip. This time,  iPhone 3 has been launched and hot on it’s heels, Sprint released its new Palm Treo 800W. Just another day in technology news, right? All in all, the Palm Treo 800W handset is the newest phone to be added to Sprints Palm Treo line. The new Palm Treo is a very smart phone which runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. It was made with the business professional in mind and runs on Sprints Broad Band Network. The data speed is very impressive for the business professional. Faster and more reliable connection to the Internet will be a reliable service. The Palm Treo 800W Palm also features WiFi and GPS services. The user will be able to access his email almost instantaneously. Additional geeky news from the technosphere as I like to call it can be found at the blog in the future. By the way if you need a iPhone Repair Miami firm I can suggest Ubreakifix. They cover water damage, cracked 3g screen, glass repair and parts not only do they do the repair in Miami but also areas such as Orlando, Tampa, Boca Raton, Pembroke Pines and various areas od Dade County and south Florida in general. they are a fast repair service too I might add.  Over there you may find a lot of gadget and hand-held technology information as well as some general articles. This new Palm Treo will prove to be quite invaluable to the professional business users. It is like having your laptop in the palm of your hands. It is easy to carry and easy to use and will become the business professionals most reliable assistant. It also has a full QERTY keyboard and one touch buttons to most applications. It also has the Sprint navigation search and GPS search for maps. 256MB user memory (approximately 170MB available user memory) is also on this phone. The touch screen supports the16 bit (65K colors, Qualcomm MSM6800A chipset).

The Palm Treo 800W is available now as it was released hot on the heels of the Apple iPhone3. It is selling for around $249 after mail in rebates and a 2-year service contract.

As stated before, this phone was designed and manufactured with the business professional in mind.

Shortcomings of the web’s Registrar Sites

Filed under: Internet News, Technology News — mpc-development @ 5:17 am

Looking at the world wide web from a broad perspective, on section of it which I believe could be greatly improved is the domain registrar services which litter it.
Foer one thing there are so many of them it is hard to keep track of them all. Some appear to be shoddy fly by night operations and leave something to be desired while others are big and are fairly responsible.
They are all similiar yet have a plethera of unique attributes that differentiate them from each another. Moniker, for example, is quite different than any other domain registrar I have used (and I have used 10 or so). On the positive side, they are one of the most secure registrars out there. But unfortunately they are not very intuitive, although they are new and this may change soon. Finding the link to change my name servers was harder than finding a needle in a haystack. There really should be more standardization out there.
I have noticed that they are generally open to debate on internet forums which I frequent so there is hope I believe. Registerfly may be the worst I have dealt with in my experience, charging me about $30 to renew a domain (godaddy charges about eight bucks) and temporarily screwing up my name servers so that my site pointed to their advertisement page for a while.
I also was not able to get thru to their customer support and they never answered any of my email inquiries. I mentioned that godaddy was less expensive than them but they are not completely without blemish themselves.
The latest time that I renewed a domain there, it was a pretty big hassle. Luckily I had a whole afternoon to complete the task. Instead of just clicking it and paying,
which I really thought should have been the case, it brought me (really it dragged me kicking and screaming) through page after page of various ‘options’, such as what hosting package I wanted for my domain they made the assumption I wanted to host the domain with them) and other bells and whistles which were not at all relevent to me, and were probably only relevent to about
one percent of their customers, if that. It seems as if I clicked
‘continue with order’ 10 or 11 times before finally being brought to the ‘checkout now’ link which was a flea sized link at the very bottom of seemingly seventy-five
different visually loud advertisements. I mean blinking banners, flashing this or that. My eyes were actually starting to hurt after all that. I was looking for a bottle of carrot juice at this point. Was I registering a domain or playing the flashiest online game of all time? But they were not thru with me just yet. My fun was just beginning It. They then gave me the option of
payment type and I chose Paypal. Instead of me just putting my password in a slot and finishing the process on the site, instead Godaddy mercilessly
yanked me out of their site to some paypal site, not just to pay, but to “set up a Billing Agreement for Preapproved Payments with Go Daddy Software, Inc.”. After I navigated that rather lengthy process
I finally saw a button that said ‘return to merchant’. I had almost left at this point thinking that I a had already paid, bot that was not the case as it turns out……  I then had to go back complete the payment on go daddy’s site, finally I saw the renewal amount, which they never bothered to show me untill step 99 out of 100 (note quite that many, but you get the point). I clicked it and I believe I finally finished the process although I never saw what you might call a clear cut ’submission complete’ or ‘order complete’ type of confirmation page. it was a little more vague than that and I was further bombarded with extensive additional offers that filled the page, obscuring everything else. I was impressed with just how many advertisements these guys could imagine, create and fit on one page.
In all fairness to these guys, however, the majority of individuals pay via their credit card, i would imagine, which is an easier process in their system of things. I had logged into their site in panic after they sent me an email headlined ‘Domain _ _ _ _ about to Expire at Godaddy!! After logging I discovered that the domain was still several months from expiring. In any case, they are one of many online domain registrars that could benefit from the old adage ‘Less is More’. On the positive side, when I had to call Godaddy’s customer service on a different occasion, they were effective and very friendly on the phone. In fact I would give them an A for telephone customer service. Obviously it get’s easier over time if you use them a lot but untill then they are a big pain in the ass (though not the worst of the bunch by any means. I use them as an example because most people know about them. They are possible the highest profile registrar in existence).
Namecheap and Network Solutions appear somewhat easier to navigate in my perception. However, not a single registrar I have used so far have been all that great. Too many advertiesements is my main complaint.

How to choose your Dedicated Hosting

Filed under: Internet News, Technology News, Web Hosting News — mpc-development @ 4:43 am

You will have to decide on whether or not to choose shared hosting or dedicated hosting.
Alternative terms for shared hosting are virtual and mass hosting, however, the term “shared hosting” is generally the most common. It refers to a hosting service which is shared with other websites
when looking at your various options regarding a dedicated host, it truly pays to ask just the right questions. All in all you will want to give this topic more thought than which brand of tote or pink diaper bags you want.
If not, you will quite possible end up with a relatively poor solution which may really act as a chokehold on the future growth
of your online enterprise. so the question is, how do you actually go about finding the ideal dedicated host for your particular needs?
How do you find that one with the optimal setup and top-notch support in order to keep them dedicated to your own business? For
one thing, take a close look at the control panel technology. Do they use Microsoft active directory combined with a backend network which will allow for an enterprise level solution that is fully scalable to
your particular needs. Or do they use Cpanel or Vdeck? Does the host provide plenty of disk space and bandwidth, unlimited SQL databases, SharePoint portals, and access to DotNetPanel control panel that allows them to manage all their resources from a single location?
How many addon domains may you have per account? How many Ip addresses are you allowed to have? Does the firm in question provide
managed dedicated servers, value servers, single multi core CPU serversor  Enterprise servers which include dual multi core processors?
Is the package at all flexible so that you do not have to spend extra money for resources at a later date. Remember that many host can hit you with hidden fees later
so make sure that everything is agreed upon ahead of time. In other words, do they charge for individual features or do they put them all together in one hosting package? Also do not forget about the importance of your traffic stats. Like I said, do not make the choice in the same way you would choose leather or pink diaper bags at the local supermarket.
Do they provides statistics on all website usage activities, such as exactly how visitors reach a site, where they go and what they do within your websites, from which page they exit your website, and when they return. Does their software work with Windows, Linux and BSD?
Also check on their customer support. Is their support over the telephone, by online form or by email? If it is by telephone, which is optimal, how many hours a day are they available. Call them randomly to make sure they actually pick up the telephone when they say they will before
you sign any type of contract. Note that that if they claim that they offer 24 hour support your call may often be answered by someone in Asia and communication could
be a bit of an issue. These tech support guys from India and Malaysia may be just as smart as their American counterparts but they may not be able to understand
all of the little nuances of your speach. It is just the way it is and it has happened to me a few times. I In this case I generally have to wait untill normal working hours to converse with someoen who understands all of the details of what I am saying.
And of course you should have them catalog all of the technical services they offer to maintain the server and get at least a 99 percent uptime.
If you wish to get going without a large upfront cost you can simply choose a host who permits you to upgrade your services later on at a reasonable cost.
