Foer one thing there are so many of them it is hard to keep track of them all. Some appear to be shoddy fly by night operations and leave something to be desired while others are big and are fairly responsible.
 They are all similiar yet have a plethera of unique attributes that differentiate them from each another. Moniker, for example, is quite different than any other domain registrar I have used (and I have used 10 or so). On the positive side, they are one of the most secure registrars out there. But unfortunately they are not very intuitive, although they are new and this may change soon. Finding the link to change my name servers was harder than finding a needle in a haystack. There really should be more standardization out there.
 I have noticed that they are generally open to debate on internet forums which I frequent so there is hope I believe. Registerfly may be the worst I have dealt with in my experience, charging me about $30 to renew a domain (godaddy charges about eight bucks) and temporarily screwing up my name servers so that my site pointed to their advertisement page for a while.
I also was not able to get thru to their customer support and they never answered any of my email inquiries. I mentioned that godaddy was less expensive than them but they are not completely without blemish themselves.
The latest time that I renewed a domain there, it was a pretty big hassle. Luckily I had a whole afternoon to complete the task. Instead of just clicking it and paying,
which I really thought should have been the case, it brought me (really it dragged me kicking and screaming) through page after page of various ‘options’, such as what hosting package I wanted for my domain they made the assumption I wanted to host the domain with them) and other bells and whistles which were not at all relevent to me, and were probably only relevent to about
one percent of their customers, if that. It seems as if I clicked
‘continue with order’ 10 or 11 times before finally being brought to the ‘checkout now’ link which was a flea sized link at the very bottom of seemingly seventy-five
different visually loud advertisements. I mean blinking banners, flashing this or that. My eyes were actually starting to hurt after all that. I was looking for a bottle of carrot juice at this point. Was I registering a domain or playing the flashiest online game of all time? But they were not thru with me just yet. My fun was just beginning It. They then gave me the option of
payment type and I chose Paypal. Instead of me just putting my password in a slot and finishing the process on the site, instead Godaddy mercilessly
yanked me out of their site to some paypal site, not just to pay, but to “set up a Billing Agreement for Preapproved Payments with Go Daddy Software, Inc.”. After I navigated that rather lengthy process
I finally saw a button that said ‘return to merchant’. I had almost left at this point thinking that I a had already paid, bot that was not the case as it turns out……  I then had to go back complete the payment on go daddy’s site, finally I saw the renewal amount, which they never bothered to show me untill step 99 out of 100 (note quite that many, but you get the point). I clicked it and I believe I finally finished the process although I never saw what you might call a clear cut ’submission complete’ or ‘order complete’ type of confirmation page. it was a little more vague than that and I was further bombarded with extensive additional offers that filled the page, obscuring everything else. I was impressed with just how many advertisements these guys could imagine, create and fit on one page.
In all fairness to these guys, however, the majority of individuals pay via their credit card, i would imagine, which is an easier process in their system of things. I had logged into their site in panic after they sent me an email headlined ‘Domain _ _ _ _ about to Expire at Godaddy!! After logging I discovered that the domain was still several months from expiring. In any case, they are one of many online domain registrars that could benefit from the old adage ‘Less is More’. On the positive side, when I had to call Godaddy’s customer service on a different occasion, they were effective and very friendly on the phone. In fact I would give them an A for telephone customer service. Obviously it get’s easier over time if you use them a lot but untill then they are a big pain in the ass (though not the worst of the bunch by any means. I use them as an example because most people know about them. They are possible the highest profile registrar in existence).
Namecheap and Network Solutions appear somewhat easier to navigate in my perception. However, not a single registrar I have used so far have been all that great. Too many advertiesements is my main complaint.

so make sure that everything is agreed upon ahead of time. In other words, do they charge for individual features or do they put them all together in one hosting package? Also do not forget about the importance of your traffic stats. Like I said, do not make the choice in the same way you would choose leather or pink diaper bags at the local supermarket.
Do they provides statistics on all website usage activities, such as exactly how visitors reach a site, where they go and what they do within your websites, from which page they exit your website, and when they return. Does their software work with Windows, Linux and BSD?
Also check on their customer support. Is their support over the telephone, by online form or by email? If it is by telephone, which is optimal, how many hours a day are they available. Call them randomly to make sure they actually pick up the telephone when they say they will before
you sign any type of contract. Note that that if they claim that they offer 24 hour support your call may often be answered by someone in Asia and communication could
be a bit of an issue. These tech support guys from India and Malaysia may be just as smart as their American counterparts but they may not be able to understand
all of the little nuances of your speach. It is just the way it is and it has happened to me a few times. I In this case I generally have to wait untill normal working hours to converse with someoen who understands all of the details of what I am saying.
And of course you should have them catalog all of the technical services they offer to maintain the server and get at least a 99 percent uptime.
If you wish to get going without a large upfront cost you can simply choose a host who permits you to upgrade your services later on at a reasonable cost.

Many if not most of the individuals that are starting out on the path of promoting

in the byline, to the major article directories such as Ezinearticles and Article City. Whoever uses your article as content on their website or
ezine must have a direct link back to your site. What is wonderful about this method is the viral marketing aspect of it. In other words, if you
write a good article it will continually used by webmaster for months and even years later, continually promoting your site on an ongoing basis long after you submitted the article.
Next you will want to join some discussion forums which feature subject matter that is similiar to your website’s theme. So, for example if you run
a real estate and investing website you will want to join a forum or message board related to these topics or something similiar. These boards
will generally allow you to have a signature or ’sig line’ in which you can put your website address as well as a catch phrase so people
will want to click on it. Then just be a part of the discussion normally and you will promote your online business as you do. The same goes for newsgroups or
the usenet. These are just different types of discussion forums. You may then proceed on to the free classified type websites. The biggest is the San Francisco based craigslist.org

According to a recent national news report from the AP,
it was reported that the internet giant Comcast Corporation apparently
 interferes with attempts by some of their high-speed web users to share files over the internet.
 This is significant because it contradicts the traditional netiquette of treating all kinds of web traffic
on an equal footing. This rather shocking news, which was verified by the AP after
coast to coast tests, is perhaps the most extreme example to date of data discrimination by a major American ISP.
 It essentially involves the firm’s computers masquerading as those of its users. And the
bad news here is that if this behavior or policy were to ever be broadly applied by other such web providers,
 it could indeed be a crippling blow to the BitTorrent,
 eDonkey and Gnutella file-sharing networks. While they are primarily considered to be sources of copyright music, software & feature,
 BitTorrent especially is rising as a legitimate tool for quickly disseminating legal content.
The concept of equal treatment of web traffic, which is sometimes referred to as netequette or “Net Neutrality”, is not really embedded in the law itself but instead backed by certain regulations.

 has focussed on tentative plans by the big web players to offer preferential treatment of traffic from some specific content providers for a fee.
It seems that Comcast’s interference is an unusually assertive and proactive tactic for managing and moderating it’s bandwidth consumption.
Whether or not this tactic is at all ethical is a different matter entirely. I am sure that they would like to keep that arguement as seperate as possible, in fact.
They would not address the practice, but their spokesperson stated that they apply various procedures to keep their web connections running at a smooth level.
According to the AP report, the spokesperson flat out refused to be specific regarding what the firm means exactly by “access”.
 Evidently Only uploads of the complete files are interferred with by the firm in question. As it stands now,
every computer recieves a message (which is completely invisible to the user) which appears like it comes from the other computer,
 telling it to cease communicating. But neither message originated from the other computer — it comes from the firm.
 This would be somewhat similiar to the operator cutting into your telephone conversation and saying: “Sorry, I have to hang up. Good bye.”
Wow, ain’t technology grand, lol? As a matter of fact, their interference appears to intercept all kinds of content.
 As an example, a feature film producer who desired to distribute his work using BitTorrent would find it very difficult or even completely impossible.
For quite some time, web access providers have hated the huge quantities of bandwidth consumed by a relatively diminutive number of users who participate in the various file-sharing programs.
These account between half and ninety percent of all web traffic, according to a data source in Europe. This seemingly insipid
tactic of managing web transfer data is referred to as “traffic shaping,” and is broadly used across the the ISP firms. It often involves slowing down some kinds of traffic, such as file-sharing,
 which is particularly bandwidth hungry. This is an  interesting story. I would have never guessed that they were using such a deceptive tact. It is
apparently not legal, but is it ethical?

In an AP story from new York as reported by yahoo news it was announced
that the Apple Corporation will permit 3rd-party applications on the iPhone, according to CEO Steve Jobs.
Jobs made this announcement on the company website today.
In a decision which marks a very decisive about-face from the firm’s past wish of controlling the applications that the users have on their handheld device’s,
Jobs stated that they want to release a software
 development kit in several months which will permit individuals outside the firm to create iPhone as well as iPod touch applications.
he was quoted as saying: “We are excited about creating a vibrant third-party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users,”
Designers have already constructed many iPhone applications which run their Safari Web browser since they did notoriginally open the iPhone directly to 3rd-party software development.
The iPhone, which combines a cellular telephone and wireless web access all together ina  single hand held device, was released some towmonths ago with much hype and high expectations.
 To date, the firm has sold more than one million iPhones.
The CEO stated today that it will take a few months to release the kit since the firm wishes to give developers an open platform while at the same time protecting users from various viruses and malware, etc.
That sounds reasonable enouph to me…
He was quoted as saying: “There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network,” he wrote.
It was also recently repiorted by the AP that many cell
 phone and PDA users have been reporting that they sometimes feel odd vibrations when there are none.
This rather odd phenomenon is often referred to as ‘Phantom Vibrations’ and no one seems to know exactly what is causing it.

According to a news report today from the AFP network,
the internet giant known as the Yahoo Corporation has reported that their 3rd quarter profits have slipped despite an increase in revenues and an almost finishes corporate structure reorganization.
Their income for the quarter was 151 million dollars, or some eleven cents per share, as compared to 159 million dollars in the same period in 2006.
Interestingly enouph, some stock market analysts had predicted that the firm would post income of twelve cents per share.
Revenue had risen to 1.77 billion from 1.58 billion in the corresponding quarter in 2006.
Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, who took over as CEO earlier in the year and started several months ago on a one hundred day plan to reorganize the firm into a more profitable entity, remained optimistic in general.
Yang stated that his firm has made  certain decisions to increase the size of it’s user base as well as the website publishers who use their services.
All in all, their lackluster 3rd Qtr. results came about as it faced some big questions from the United States Congress.
For example, the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs stated today that it desires the firm’s executives to testify at a hearing concerning their role in a human rights case in China which resulted in a journalist being imprisoned for about ten years.
The Committee chairman Tom Lantos had requested that Yang appear at a hearing next month to discuss the firm’s disclosure of damning data to the Chinese authorities regarding the case of Shi Tao.
“We want to clarify how that happened, and to hold the company to account for its actions. And we want to examine what steps the company has taken since then to protect the privacy rights of its users in China.”
The committee has stated that it has data which seems to indicate that Yahoo had known more regarding the Chinese investigation than was admitted during testimony. Well I personally predict that they will make a strong rebound in the near future.
They are still the most popular portal site on the internet and they just have too many users not to sustain their profits, particularly with the pending reorganization, in my humble opinion.

According to an Associated Press report out of the capital, The House today approved a 4-year extension of a moratorium on state & local taxes on web access.
This is good news for netrepreneurs but it could have been better since there was plenty of support in both sides of the political fence for a permanent ban.
As it was, the measure passed by a fairly wide margin.
The tax ban, which was initially passed back in 1998, is set to expire on November first. The extension exempts some states that approved taxes prior to the initial enactment.
 Broadly speaking, the bill to make the moratorium permanent has 238 House co-sponsors, which is more than is needed.
Representative Lamar Smith, a Republican from the lone star state, stated that a permanent ban would make certain that businesses would continue to invest in the world wide web
 and keep it’s access affordable, at least in the near future. He claimed that by limiting the House to consideration of a temporary extension, Democrats “want to leave the door open to taxing the Internet in the future.”
But it was nonetheless argued that a temporary ban was the correct way to go both for various reasons.
The Senate, which has to act next on this particular legislation, called HR 3678, has “in many ways made it clear that a permanent moratorium would be dead on arrival,”. And without swift action, the ban was in danger of expiring before new legislation could pass, according to one source.
In addition, it was argued that it could potentially permit lawmakers to make corrections and modifications as required, as has occurred the 2 times the moratorium has been extended previously since it’s inception in the late 90’s.
Action is not at all assured in the Senate, where there is some substantial support for a permanent tax ban. Personally, I really hope that they go ahead with a permanent tax ban for the web, but then again, I make an income from the web so
I suppose I am a bit biased in this regard.
